Do You Love Haute Couture Embroidery?
Happy 2019 everyone! With the start of a new year comes the time when I announce my haute couture beadwork and embroidery classes for the year! This year I will be focusing a lot more on teaching and will be visiting some new exciting locations to share my passion for couture embroidery.
If you are unfamiliar with Haute Couture Beadwork and Embroidery I encourage you to take some time to experience what it is all about. One of the best places to get a visual idea is on Pinterest. You can take a look through my inspiration board for couture embroidery by clicking here.
Embroidery seen on the runways of Paris!
Haute Couture beadwork and embroidery is known as Tambour embroidery in the US. In France, it is Luneville embroidery. These are the two most common ways to refer to haute couture embroidery. Personally, I usually refer to my work as Luneville embroidery. This is due to the fact that I was certified in the technique in Paris, France and like to use the professional terms that I was taught in my studies. I spent over 5 years living in Paris and was certified in Haute Couture Beadwork and Embroidery by Lesage (an atelier owned by Chanel). My sole purpose in moving to France was to become certified and to learn as much about the world of couture as possible.
In my 5 years of living in Paris, I was allowed into some of the most prestigious fashion houses and atelier’s in the world of Haute Couture. I was allowed in the house of Lesage’s collection room to view the largest collection of embroidery art in the world, with over 70 000 samples. This included works for such fashion houses as Madeleine Vionnet, Schiaparelli, Yves Saint-Laurent, Christian Lacroix, Chanel, Dior and many of the other famous international Couture establishments.
I began writing about what I saw on the runways and became international press, gaining access to many runway shows. I attended Paris Fashion Week and Couture Week, sitting alongside some of the most influential people in the world of fashion.

My life was a dream come true, and now, I want to share my dream with you! I want to share the little-known beadwork and embroidery techniques I learned while in Paris. I want to share my experiences with you about going into the ateliers and seeing such history within the studios. This is why I love to teach. I know that not everyone will be able to live my Paris fashion dream, but if I can bring a little bit of it back and share with others, then I will have done my job.
Haute couture beadwork and embroidery is something that is so versatile, I have many students who come from all kinds of places in life. I have fashion students, wedding gown designers, costume designers, fashion designers, textile designers, and hobbyists who just love embroidery or beadwork. No matter the skill level in other areas, this is a beginning step into the world of Luneville beadwork and embroidery. The technique is unlike anything you have ever tried before. Most of the stitching and beadwork is done on the underside of the fabric with a small crochet-like hook, a Luneville hook.
If this is a technique you would like to learn, my 3-day intensive class may be of interest to you! So, what can you expect in my class? The following is a rough itinerary as to what you can expect.
Day 1 Class introduction Discussion about couture embroidery Setting up the frame Transferring designs onto fabric Learning the basic chain stitch Working with metallic threads
Day 2 Discussion about inspiration Introduction to couture embroidery designers Learning how to work with beads and sequins Learning vermicelli stitch Attaching sew on stones
Day 3 How to create designs for couture embroidery Where to purchase couture supplies Working with silk threads Working with non-conventional supplies Introduction to 3D stitching Finish up samples
