Paris Fashion Week SS/2014 Part 1

Well, it is that time of year again when Fashionista’s from far and wide descend upon Paris to attend shows and be photographed.  Unfortunately, I missed the first day of Fashion Week as I was in England visiting family.  So, my review of the shows will start from the second day of Fashion Week.  The first show I attended was Alexis Mabille which was shown at Cite de la mode et du design in Paris.  Making my way down to the venue beside the Seine, I was met by swarms of people already waiting in a standing line hoping to get into the show.  It has been about a year since I had attended Paris Fashion Week and had forgotten how many people there are and how crazy it can get!  Once I was seated in the show, I was happy to see many of the designs featured Swarovski crystals.  The theme of the show was based around the idea of a sexy “Bomb Girl.”  The invitation itself featured a 50’s style pin-up girl and the theme continued throughout the show.  The military style was also very heavily played upon throughout the designs.  The clothes seemed to be tomboy with a strong femininity presence in the designs.  The military straight laced designs were softened with sparkling Swarovski crystals and delicate cutouts in the clothes.  My favorite piece in the show were the military inspired shorts detailed with crystals.

The next show I attended was Manish Arora.  One of my favorite shows, I am always excited to attend and see what sparkling designs he has designed this season.  Making my way to Palais de Tokyo, I joined the line filing into the building and found my place.  The show started and I was not disappointed.  The designs were sporty and edgy, yet channeled a 20’s style flapper complete with fringes hanging from dresses made of beads.  The embroidery and beadwork on the clothes were expertly created, and left me wanted to go home and embroider all of my clothes!  Stacked bracelets that the models wore were also something quite spectacular.  Rows of neon colored Swarovski crystal and beaded bangles on both wrists of the models created a playful, trendy statement.  The combination of vibrant neon colors alongside pastel hues rounded out an interesting, beautiful collection.

A wonderful start to Paris Fashion Week, these two collections were impressive and I can’t wait to see what other designers have to offer!
