The Collection – A new fashion series
Just when I was beginning to get bored and was wishing for something new to watch, Amazon Prime has given me some new Fashion must see t.v! The Collection, a new series based on a Paris Fashion house was created by Desperate Housewives and Ugly Betty creator Oliver Goldstick. Set just after the second world war, this drama is centered around two brothers Paul and Claude who are part of an unstable family who pay a high price for their ambitions of trying to reinstate Paris as the center of the fashionable world after the Nazi occupation.
Costume designers Chattoune & Fab were in charge of creating beautiful handmade, couture costumes for the show. They designed 40 extravagant fairy tale like dresses for The Collection not to mention the 1,200 outfits for the rest of the cast. I am preparing for some major eye candy!
The Telegraph recently reported, “This is such a strong moment in fashion, but it’s rarely seen on film,” explains Chattoune, the Cesar Award-nominated costume designer. “We see so much of wartime and Fifties fashion, but this was an amazing opportunity to show how important clothing was in 1947 France.”
“They wanted to establish in people’s minds that Parisian haute couture was the only one that counted,” says Anne Seba, author of Les Parisiennes; How the Women of Paris Lived, Loved and Died in the 1940s. “There were fears that the Italians might knock them off the top spot, and American designers were edging ahead with cool, elegant couture, so the French couture houses wanted to remind people that nobody could make bespoke clothes like theirs.”
I must admit anything with Paris or fashion has won me over already. I am about to watch the first episode, so I hope it doesn’t disappoint! Has anyone else watched this series yet? Let me know in the comments below what you thought of it!
